Art Block trade

I've just had the most fabulous Art Block trade
with the Lovely and Talented
Sherry
from
Here is what shabby gorgeousness Sherry made for me...
Isn't she a Beaut...

The wooden block has been painted, stamped and beautifully embellished with fabric flowers, lace, ribbon trims..
and these wonderful glass pebbles.

Sherry has used a metal punch kit
to stamp the words
'LOVE'
..which is very apt...because I LOVE it!!
Sooo Shabby....Soooo me!!
(You can't see clearly in my pics, but Sherry has also used Glossy Accents over the eyes and mouth to make them shine..... If you want to see better pics and to see how Sherry made this ...hop over Here )
-oOo-
and...
now this is what I created for Sherry...
Meet Paris...
I crackle painted my block first..
...drew and painted my shabby gal
added some vintage lace, buttons and a crackled heart.
..a doily, french ad, and a little shabby drawer pull
..and wings...Oh I do love my wings!!
Sherry has received my art block now...
...and I was so pleased to hear that she like it :)
Thanks again Sherry for another enjoyable and wonderful swap!

Thanks for Peeking!

Poetry and Prose - Tag Tuesday

Over at
Tag Tuesday
this week the theme is Poetry and Prose....
I don't have a favourite poem,
...but this one does hold a special place in my heart
My father sadly passed away on Valentine's day (11 years ago)
and a dear friend sent me this poem...
-oOo-
'Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the
swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

‘Mary Elizabeth Frye’
So, on the anniversary of my fathers passing...These comforting words inspired me to make this weeks tag....
I chose the chipboard tag, because of its shape, painted the background with shades of grey, stamped and embossed the flowers and angel (Andy Skinner stamps) coloured the Angel with promarkers, added the R.I.P. (alpha stamps) words (computer printed words), seam binding, a cross charm I found in my craft stash, vintage rule and a little paper rose.

It must be LOVE......

Ooooh....It's been a chilly weekend here....
Good excuse to hibernate in the craft-room!!
So for some creative inspiration
I've been blog-hopping
in search of a  Challenge or 2!!(or 4!!) to get those creative juices flowing!!
-oOo-
I've had these neglected wooden mini drawers in my craftroom for absolute ages..
So when I was looking around for something to alter for a Valentine/Love/Recipe/Texture Challenge
It shouted out ....
"Pick Me!!!"
-oOo-
I shabbied it up with some crackle painting
...and distressed the edges with distress inks (#SSS challenge- recipe element)
...added some crackle painted chipboard wings (#SSS challenge- recipe element)
Tim Holtz #14 plaquette
(perfect for Valentine's day!!)
The crown was originally a metal christmas tree decoration
..... got a pack of 6 of these little lovelies in the IKEA January sale for 50p!!
The crown also got crackle painted,
....then added lots of lovely vintage buttons (#SSS challenge- recipe element),
a gem (recycled from a keyring from a christmas cracker!) and a heart charm.

Ripped of the original little wooden drawer pulls
...and replaced them with more TH goodies
(Curio knobs)
The fourth silver drawer pull was a giftie from my lovely friend Tina in Texas!
As I just mentioned
I tore those little wooden knobs right off!!
But they didn't go in the bin...
Oh No!....nothing gets wasted in the Smifferoo household LOL! ;)
I stuck them onto the bottom of the drawer unit
to make little feet!!
Lined the drawers with some old torn edges of music sheets (#SSS challenge- recipe element)

and used some Andy Skinner 'Antiques set' stamps to decorate two of the drawers and the sides.
(Just love this candelabra stamp)

Thanks for Peeking!

The challenges that inspired me to alter my drawer unit are...
Retro Cafe Art Gallery Valentine's Day Contest
Simon Says Stamp and Show's recipe challenge of "torn edges, distress ink, button, and wings"
Sunday Stamper -Wk192 - Love
There is a whole lot of texture going on in the form of crackle paint, buttons, metal, glass etc.... so I'm also entering it in the Stamp Man's "texture" challenge.
